Trautman dazzles as WC earns split

Freshman Kerri Trautman was scintillating on the mound as the Wilmington College softball teams managed a split of a non-conference doubleheader with Thomas More Friday, winning the second game 7-0. They lost the first game, 3-1.

Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) scattered five hits over seven innings for her first career complete game shutout, improving to 3-4 on the season. The performance enabled the Fightin' Quakers to snap a three-game losing streak.

Wilmington jumped out in front in the bottom of the first as senior Catlin Shilling (Waverly, OH/Waverly) scored thanks to a two-out throwing error. WC would go on to score in four of their six at-bats in the night cap.

The Fightin' Quakers were able to gain some distance between them and TMC in the bottom of the fourth. Back-to-back single by Erika Lee (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) and Allie Noggle (Ashville, OH/Teays Valley) kicked off the inning, and they moved into scoring position on a ground out. Freshman Ashley McCray (Vandalia, OH/Butler) walked to load the bases.

The first run scored as sophomore Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) lined a single off the glove of the pitcher, and then two more scored on Shilling's two-out single. Shilling finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a walk.

Lee doubled home a run and then scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. She added an RBI in the sixth inning as well, finishing the 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Noggle added two hits in the back end of the doubleheader.

In the opener, a two-out, two-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning provided the margin of victory for the Saints.

Senior Kaylee Cox (Elgin, OH/Elgin) provided the only offense of Wilmington with a solo shot in the bottom of the second to knot the score at one. She was 2-for-3 at the plate. Noggle was also 2-for-3 for the Fightin' Quakers.

Senior Danielle Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) took her second straight loss (4-4), allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in seven innings with six strikeouts.
