Back-to-back All-OAC awards for Erwin

WESTERVILLE – Senior Alek Erwin earned first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the second straight season as Wilmington placed fifth of 10 teams in the 2013 OAC Cross Country Championships Saturday at Otterbein University.

"Alek earned another all conference award, but I think he still has a better race in him for regionals," said head coach Ron Combs. "I thought we had to run a perfect race to get fourth in the men's race. We almost pulled it off. I thought Jake Simpkins and Dominic King really saved us."

Erwin (South Vienna, OH/Northeastern) finished eighth with the time of 25:59.4

Mount Union claimed the championship with 34 points, followed by Ohio Northern (56), John Carroll (61), Otterbein (136), Wilmington (150), Heidelberg (165), Muskingum (195), Baldwin Wallace (202), Marietta (249) and Capital (293).

Senior Myles Corcoran (Clarksville, OH/Clinton-Massie) placed 29th (26:51.4), and was followed by junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) in 30th place (26:53.1).

Junior Jacob Boehm (Blanchester, OH/McNicholas) and sophomore Dominic King (Bettsville, OH/Bettsville) rounded out the Wilmington scoring with 41st and 42nd place finishes. Boehm crossed the line in 27:30.5 and King finished in 27:30.9.

Wilmington will compete in the Great Lakes Regional race on November 16.
