Senior Alek Erwin set a new school record Friday as he finished seventh in the 2013 #JennaStrong Fall Classic on the Wilmington College campus.

As a team, the Fightin' Quakers finished 13th of 36 schools competing.

"I am really excited about the progress our athletes have made in the last two weeks," said head coach Ron Combs. "I think we are really starting to come on strong. Alek ran very aggressively today. I think his best race is still to come."

Erwin (South Vienna, OH/Northeastern) finished the 8K course in 25:25.34, breaking the previous school record held by Pat Carroll by less than a second.

The Fall Classic was renamed this season for cross country runner Jenna Parlette, who collapsed while leading a race on August 31, and passed away three days later.

"Today was an amazing day," said Combs. "The first #JennaStrong Fall Classic was an amazing experience for everyone that was involved and participated."

Juniors Myles Corcoran (Clarksville, OH/Clinton-Massie) and Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) were the next Wilmington runners across the finish line. Corcoran placed 80th with the time of 27:06.72, while Simpkins was nipping at his heels with an 81st place finish in the time of 27:06.93.

The final two Wilmington scorers were senior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville), 110th in 27:31.15 and junior Jacob Boehm (Blanchester, OH/Archbishop McNicholas), 115th in 27:37.59.

Wilmington returns to the course 11 a.m. November 2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference championships at Otterbein University.
