Erwin third at Benedictine

NAPERVILLE, IL – Senior Alek Erwin continues his impressive final collegiate season, finishing third overall at Benedictine's Eagle Invite Friday as the Wilmington College men's cross country team placed fifth of 17 teams.

"Alek is running real well right now," said head coach Ron Combs. "I believe it's the fifth fastest time in school history in the five mile. It's the first time the whole men's team has finished under 28 minutes."

Erwin was about 15 seconds from the leader in posting a time of 25:42.69. While the senior is pushing toward OAC prominence, Combs would still like to see the rest of the team pull closer to its front runner.

Currently, the rest of the pack is trailing Erwin by two minutes, and Combs would like to see them get to 30 seconds closer.

Junior Myles Corcoran (Clarksville, OH/Clinton-Massie) was the next Wilmington harrier to finish the distance, finishing 52nd in 27:32.30. Junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) was the next runner, finishing 59th with the time of 27:42.62.

Rounding out the scoring for Wilmington was freshman Tommy Looby (Canton, OH/Glen Oak), 67th in 27:56.79 and sophomore Dominic King (Bettsville, OH/Bettsville), 70th in 27:58.28.

Wilmington returns to the course Friday, hosting the 2013 #JennaStrong Fall Classic.
