Sydnor, Simpkins earn event victories

WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College men's track and field team picked up two event victories, and they finished fifth of 13 teams at the Otterbein Invitational Saturday.

"I was happy with the results from our meet tonight," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "(It was a) very competitive meet for our first meet of the season."

Senior Jake Sydnor (Owensville, OH/Clermont Northeastern) won the 400 with the time of 50.62, and was the top Division III finisher – fourth overall – in the 200 (23.11).

"I thought Jake was great in the 400," said Combs. "That was a good run for him basically by himself."

Senior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) won the mile run (4:30.33) and was third in the 800 (2:02.24).

Three runners scored for the Fightin' Quakers in the 3000, led by junior Dominic King (Bettsville, OH/Bettsville) – who was fifth (9:24.61). Freshman Griffin Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) was sixth (9:30.06) and freshman Hunter Stith (Batavia, OH/Batavia) was eighth (9:56.36).

Sophomore Zak Kruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was fourth in the pole vault (4.10m) to round out Wilmington's scoring.
