Patterson, Simpkins earn All-Ohio

DELAWARE – Senior Christian Patterson jumped a national-best height in winning the high jump as the Wilmington College men's track & field team finished seventh in the 2014 All-Ohio championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.

"I am really happy with how today went for our team," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs.  "I thought we had a lot of kids that competed really well with some stiff competition. For our second meet, I thought we made significant progress from last week. I thought seventh place for the guys was strong with not having run relays and not loading up our guys. We have some work to do to catch the other OAC schools, but we are making progress each week."

Patterson (Norwood, OH/Norwood) jumped 6-10.25 in the high jump. It was less than an inch from tying the school record of 6-11. Sophomore Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) was fourth in the high jump with his season-best height of 6-6.

Junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) was the only other male competitor to earn All-Ohio honors, placing third in the 800 (1:54.89).

Sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) established a school record in the 100 (10.72), finishing in fifth place. He was also fifth in the 200 (21.79). Junior Jake Sydnor (Owensville, OH/Clermont Northeastern) placed tenth in the 200 in a personal best time of 22.30. He also won his heat in the 400 (49.01), placing sixth overall.

Seniors Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) and Alex Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) finished fifth in the respective events. Kline in the steeplechase (10:00.28) and Erwin in the 1500 (4:01.86.

Sophomore Linden Ayoki (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) rounded out Wilmington's top-10 finishes, placing seventh in the discus (135-7).

Wilmington returns to competition Friday at the Centre Invitational.
