Two meet records fall at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE – The Wilmington College men's track & field team set two meet records as they finished second at the Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invitational.

"I am really encouraged with tonight's results," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "We didn't load up the meet at all and still were able to get second for the men and fifth for the women. At this point, we are working the athletes pretty hard building toward conference, but I am very encouraged with the results so far. The potential is there-it will be interesting to see where this group takes it."

Senior Christian Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) won the meet and established a new record with a jump of 6-09.50, breaking the previous mark of 6-08.25. With limited practice due to his basketball obligations, Patterson participated in his first meet of the season. His mark was the fourth highest jump in Division III, according to Combs.

Junior Jake Sydnor (Owensville, OH/Clermont Northeastern) was a part of two of the three Wilmington victories. He won the 400 meter dash in the time of 51.05. The junior was joined by junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View), senior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) and Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) to win the distance medley relay in a meet record 10:28.42

"That was a great run by the distance medley relay team; the second fastest time in school history," said Combs. "They will go faster as the season winds down."

Sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) turned in two quality performances, finishing second in the 200 (22.74) and fourth in the 55 (6.63).

The field events were very fruitful for the Fightin' Quakers. Freshman Zak Kruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) recorded second place finishes in the pole vault (13-09.75) and the long jump (20-11.25). Junior Tyler Carter (Midview, OH/Grafton) was second in the shot put (44-10.75) and fourth in the weight throw (42-07.50).

Wilmington returns to the track Saturday at the All-Ohio meet at Otterbein College.
