School record for Duncan as WC wins OAC South

WESTERVILLE – Sophomore Jeremy Duncan set a school record and nearly missed another one as the Wilmington College men's track team won the Ohio Athletic Conference South championship Saturday at the event held at Otterbein University.

Duncan won two of Wilmington's six event victories as the Fightin' Quakers scored 147 points, outdistancing Muskingum by 14 points. The Muskies were second with 133 points, followed by Otterbein (119), Marietta (114) and Capital (58).

"We have a solid men's team," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "I think there is a lot of potential on the men's side.  It's really up to the guys, but I think if they work hard and we can stay healthy we can do some great things. Our sprinters had a good meet.  We put four in the final of the 60m dash, placed two guys high in the 200, and had the 400 winner."

Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) established the school record in the 60m dash in the preliminaries, finishing in 7.05. He won the event in the time of 7.06. The 6-5 sprinter added a victory in the 200 (22.57), missing the school record by .01 seconds.

Senior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) won the 3000 (8:55.02), missing a school record by less than a second. He teamed with junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View), senior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) and senior Tony Goodrich (Bethel, OH/New Richmond) to win the distance medley relay in 10:44.64.

After finishing fourth in the 200 (23.00), junior Jake Sydnor (Owensville, OH/Clermont Northeastern) won the 400 (50.83). Kline recorded the final event win, winning the 1000 (2:41.28), and he was second in the mile (4:43.90).

Sophomore Leevi Stump (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon) recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the long jump (6.60m) and the triple jump (12.93m).

"It was good team win for the men," said Combs. "We really got contributions from everywhere, sprinters, jumpers, distance, and throwers"

Wilmington returns to action on February 15 for the All-Ohio meet at Otterbein.
