Track & Field competes in non-scored meets

The Wilmington College men's and women's track teams competed this weekend at a pair of unscored meets. Part of the team traveled to Kent State for the Golden Flash Gala, and the other part participated at Capital University.

"I am pleased with our performances," said head coach Ron Combs. "This weekend was about evaluating where we are heading into break. We also wanted to get as many OAC's qualifiers as we can get."

Junior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) established a pair of indoor personal records. She posted the time of 2:27.78 in the 800, and 18:48.14 in the 5000.

Senior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) and junior Jake Simpkins (Germatown, OH/Valley View) finished second and third in the mile. Erwin covered the distance in 4:23.98, and Simpkins with the time of 4:26.88.

Combs was pleased about the times of junior Jake Sydnor in the 200 (22.98) and the 400 (50.44).

Sophomore Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) was second in the shot put with a toss of 11.87 meters. She wasn't the only strong performer in the field events. Sophomore Leevi Stump (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon) was second on both the long jump (6.35 meters) and triple jump (12.90 meters).

Wilmington will return to action at the Otterbein Invitational on January 18.
