Men's swimming concludes dual meet season

In their final dual meet of their careers, the eight seniors went out with impressive performances Wednesday against Division II Tiffin. The women's team ran away with a 122-33 victory, while the men fell 112-79 at the Wilmington Natatorium.

"It was a great end to our dual meet season," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "We had some great performances on both the men's and women's side. It was a great night for our seniors. We had some seniors that were able to win some races for us. It's a great way for them to finish their last dual meet of the careers. Tonight was partially to get some great races in, but also to celebrate the seniors and the dedication they showed to their teammates, along with the legacy they are going to leave."

On the men's side, senior Corbin Hellwarth (Celina, OH/Parkway) won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.11) and joined freshman David Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton), sophomore David Hawk (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead) and junior Mason Harris (Westerville, OH/Central) to win the 200 medley relay (1:54.93)

"We had a couple guys we wanted to get some rest for as we are preparing for our conference championship meet," said Breen. "But the guys that did swim, performed exceptionally well. In swimming, you try to peak at the right time. We are still a little beat up right now; still training hard as we start to taper, and to have the kind of performance, as a team, across the board, we are setting ourselves up well for the conference championship meet."

Senior Victoria Burcham (Urbana, OH/Urbana) was responsible for two wins, claiming the 100 backstroke (1:14.87) and teaming with sophomore Rachel Drake (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield), junior Caroline Kruczynski (Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) and freshman Elyse Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) to win the 200 medley relay (2:15.75).

Seniors Lisa Fetters (Hamilton, OH/Badin), Rebecca Scherer (Circleville, OH/Circleville) and Liz Miller (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon) teamed with Krucynski to record the fastest time in the 400 medley relay.

Fetters added a win the 50 freestyle (30.27) and Scherer picked up a win in the 100 freestyle (1:08.49).

Wilmington returns to the pool February 13-15 for the Ohio Athletic Conference championships.
