The Wilmington College men's swimming team won five events Friday, but fell to Ohio Northern at the Wilmington Natatorium, 121-89. It was the first of back-to-back meets for the Fightin' Quakers.
"After a tough week of practicing, they raced well today," said head coach Trip Breen. "I was not surprised, but it was exciting to see."
Senior Mikey Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) was victorious in both his individual events, and swam the fastest opening leg of the 200 medley relay, but WC finished second (1:52.09). He won the 200 freestyle (2:02.44) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.92).
Breen also pointed out the performances of sophomore David Hawk (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead), who top his career in-season times. He won the 100 freestyle (55.66) and nearly won the 50 freestyle - losing in the three-tenths of a second (25.17).
Junior Mason Harris (Westerville, OH/Central) was the 400 freestyle (4:27.18) and freshman Erik Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) won the 200 individual medley (2:16.78).
Wilmington returns to the pool Saturday at Franklin.
