WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team put two dominant halves together to win it's home opener 1-0 over Hanover College.
The Quakers put pressure on the Panther back line right away, letting loose four shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the match. Hometown hero Brady Vilvens was able to break the 0-0 tie in the 19' minute when he converted a remarkable assist by Kael Rascon.
Wilmington would not score again but they would completely dictate the pace of play and physicality of the game. Wilmington goalkeeper Thomas Grimes brilliantly saved a penalty kick and then was able to quickly rise up and make a second save on the rebounding ball.
Wilmington outshot Hanover 15-5. Thomas Grimes saved all three shots on goal he faced.
Up next the Quakers will travel to Franklin College to take on the Grizzlies Wednesday at 5:00.
