Maki, Jackson combine for six goals in @WCMensLax loss to Capital

In what is technically the longest men's lacrosse game in school history, Wilmington fell to Capital Thursday, 14-9, in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Townsend Field at Williams Stadium.

The second half of the game was finished Thursday after the team's played the first half Wednesday, and then the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Capital seized control of the game by scoring five of the six goals in the second quarter, including a goal with four seconds remaining. It enabled the Crusaders to turn Wilmington's 3-2 lead into a 7-4 deficit.

It was the longest, quickest response for the Fightin' Quakers as it took 21 hours, but 29 seconds of game time, for Wilmington to pull back to within two. Sophomore Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster) found the back of the net to make it 7-5.

Unfortunately, Capital retaliated by scoring four of the next five goals to build a five-goal advantage heading into the final period. The Fightin' Quakers got back into the game with back-to-back goals and three of the next four. However, the Crusaders slammed the door with two straight goals.

Part of Wilmington's difficulties came in the inability win the faceoff consistently as they went just 8-of-26, and they couldn't keep Capital from successfully clearing as the Crusaders were 41-of-42 on clear attempts.

Junior Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley) and freshman Devon Maki (Pickerington, OH/Central) each scored three goals with one assist to lead Wilmington.  Delaney added two goals for the Fightin' Quakers.

Sophomore Paul Koerbel (Maineville, OH/Kings) made 18 saves, while allowing 14 goals in playing the entire 90 minutes.

Wilmington (7-4 overall, 0-2 OAC) travels to John Carroll 7 p.m. Saturday in an Ohio Athletic Conference game.
