School record for Jackson in win

School record for Jackson in win

Sophomore Jalen Jackson scored four times and distributed a school-record five assists as the Wilmington College men's lacrosse team recorded its first victory of the season with a 18-6 win over Franciscan Saturday in non-conference action at Williams Stadium.

A pair of freshmen Nick Perry (Carmel, IN/Carmel) and Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster) turned in season-best performances. Perry tallied a career-high five goals and Delaney scored four times with two assists.

Wilmington dominated in the first quarter with four unanswered goals by four different players. Alexander Gossard (Galloway, OH/Hilliard Bradley), Jackson, Perry and freshman Chris Hein (McKinney, TX/McKinney) all found the back of the net.

The Barons finally got on the board with two goals to start the second quarter, but Perry went on a scoring ambush. He scored three of Wilmington's four straight goals as WC claimed an 8-2 halftime lead. Delaney scored the other second quarter goal.

The third quarter was much of the same as Wilmington scored three of the quarter's four goals.

Wilmington was able to control most of the possession play in the fourth quarter once they grabbed the lead and were able to control the tempo of the game.

Gossard finished with three goals and two assists and Hein added two goals in the win.

Goalkeeper Paul Koerbel (Maineville, OH/Kings) earned his first win of the season, turning back 16 shots. He now has 95 saves on the season.

Wilmington (1-4) travels to Defiance 7 p.m. Wednesday.
