NEW CONCORD  – A deep three-pointer as the shot clock was expiring, and with four seconds remaining in the game, lifted Muskingum to the 78-74 victory over the Wilmington College men's basketball team Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference in the Muskingum Recreation Center.

With 34 seconds remaining, and Wilmington trailing by three, sophomore Christian Jones (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton) converted a three-point play to knot the game.

"We wanted to put him position where he could either attack the rim himself, or drive, draw and kick," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "It so happened that Christian made the play himself, and it was a fantastic play. He took contact and finished just like you think an all-league player would."

But the aforementioned three-pointer allowed the home-standing Muskies to escape with the victory.

"We did a really nice job of mixing man and zone in that possession, and before you knew it – it was one second on the shot clock and the kid was a foot-and-half behind the volleyball line, and happened to chucked up a contested shot and made it," said Hunt.

The game featured 12 lead changes and nine ties with Muskingum holding the game's largest lead of seven points.

Muskingum's reserves played a huge part in the win as they outscored the WC reserves, 33-16, and held a 10-point advantage in second-chance points.

Jones finished with a team-high 19 points, while sophomore D.J. Iles (Fayetteville, OH/Fayetteville Perry) scored a career-high 17 points with a team-high four assists. Senior Zach McCorkle (Cincinnati, OH/Winton Woods) finished with 13 points, while senior Chris Jackson (Ostrander, OH/Buckeye Valley) pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.

Wilmington (6-9 overall, 3-5 OAC) hosts to Otterbein 7:30 p.m. in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
