Late run guides MBB to key win

NEW CONCORD, OH – In a game that featured four ties and nine lead changes in the second half, the final time the lead changed hands came as the Wilmington College men's basketball team scored 13 of the game's final 16 points in registering a 70-63 win over Muskingum in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Muskingum Recreation Center.

Wilmington's defense forced three consecutive turnovers with the game hanging in the balance, and it was a three-point play by freshman Jordan Jones (Dayton, OH/Thurgood Marshall) that sparked the spurt. It tied the game, and junior Zach McCorkle (Cincinnati, OH/Winton Woods) hit a pair of free throws following his steal to give Wilmington the lead it wouldn't surrender.

Other than Jones and McCorkle, seniors Jonathan Bibbs (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) and R.J. Leppert (Liberty Township, OH/Lakota East) found the scorebook in the aforementioned run.

The Fightin' Quakers seemingly had opportunities to put the home-standing Muskies away in the first half, but could pull away thanks in part to guard Logan Kimble. The senior scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the first half. In fact, he scored seven of Muskingum's nine baskets in the first 20 minutes.

Freshman Christian Jones (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton) finished with a team-high 19 points and a career-high five steals. Bibbs added 15 points and senior Dwight Johnson (Dayton, OH/Jefferson) added seven points and a team-high seven assists.

Wilmington (11-12 overall, 8-9 OAC) will play its final home game of the season 3 p.m. Saturday, hosting Mount Union. The Fightin' Quakers will honor Leppert, Johnson, Bibbs and Ben McGriff (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) prior to the start of the game.
