PREVIEW: Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets

Through the first six games of the season, the Wilmington College men's basketball team has yet to lose back-to-back games. If they want to keep that trend alive, they will have to beat the Ohio Athletic Conference's preseason favorite – Baldwin Wallace – on the road. (Game Notes)

"Baldwin Wallace is a very good basketball team," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "There is a reason they were picked to win the league. They got talent up and down their roster. They are a big, physical, very good-shooting basketball team. It's going to be a tough task on Saturday."

The Yellow Jackets have four players averaging double figures, led by senior forward Kyle Payne's 17.2 points. Payne is tied with senior Kevin Krakowiak for the team lead with 6.3 boards. Krakowiak is scoring 14.7 points per contest.

Perhaps the most important player is junior Jaron Crowe. The point guard is second on the team in scoring with 15.5 points and leads the team with 6.5 assists. His assist-to-turnover ratio is a tad better that 2-to-1.

Senior Tyler Ferrell adds 10.0 points per game for the Yellow Jackets.

"We have to play great team defense on Saturday," said Hunt. "They have weapons all over the place. I don't think its one player. It's us doing a better job, as a collective group, playing better team defense. We are not guarding good enough as a group. We have some guys that are playing good defense, but we are not playing good team defense and that has to change. Offensively we are scoring enough, being efficient. Do we need to finish around the basket a little better? Yes, we do. But ultimately everything starts and stops on the defensive end of the floor. We are to rebound the ball as a group, gang rebound if you will, and guard the three-point line for sure."

Adding to Wilmington's dilemma is its early struggles away from home. The road hasn't been kind to the Fightin' Quakers as WC is 1-3, including 0-3 against Division III competition away from Fred Raizk Arena.

"We have to do a better job of creating our own energy when we go on the road, create an us against the world mentality – and we haven't had that," said Hunt. "We have to do a better job of playing more enthusiast basketball – both home and away. It's starts in practice every single day. We have been inconsistent in practice, and we have been inconsistent in games. You play like you practice. That has been our stress all week."

Tip off is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday.
