CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – Thomas More went on a 19-3 run midway through the second half to steal all the game's momentum as the Wilmington College men's basketball team fell to 1-2 on the season with the 83-73 loss to the Saints in non-conference action at the Connor Convocation Center.

With two teams that like to turn up the pressure, the ability to take care of the basketball was paramount. Unfortunately for the Quakers, they coughed the ball up 30 times – including 17 times in the second half. Meanwhile, Wilmington's pressure couldn't disrupt the host Saints. After forcing 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, WC only cause four in the second 20 minutes.

"It was definitely a tale of two halves," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "We weren't nearly as sharp or focused in the second half. They made all of the hustle plays in the second half. We have to do a better job of putting two halves together."

The 30 turnovers negated the fact Wilmington shot 57 percent from the field and held a plus-10 advantage on the boards. The Quakers pulled down 38 rebounds compared to just 28 for TMC. However, the Saints were very efficient with their rebounding converting 15 offensive boards into 23 second-chance points, while the giveaways were converted into 39 points.

"Thomas More's style creates turnovers, and we played right into it their hands," said Hunt. "We have to be mentally and physically tough with the ball. When you play against a team that runs and traps all over the court, you have to make the solid play. We tried to make the spectacular plays instead of being solid."

Wilmington couldn't miss in the first half, drilling 75 percent of their shots. The Quakers ended the half by scoring 22 of the last 31 points in the stanza and took a 12-point lead into the locker room. WC's lead reached 14, and was still 10 with 15 minutes remaining in the game before TMC's game-changing run.

The deficit shrunk to two on freshman Tyler Jordan's (Jasper, AL/Cincinnati Withrow) with 4:13 left in the game. But, Thomas More scored 13 of the next 15 points in sealing the game.

Senior Brandon Candella (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) led the team with 17 points, while junior Malcolm Heard II (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) tallied 10 points with a team-high eight rebounds.

It was also the second straight game that Wilmington faced foul trouble as three Quakers fouled out as WC was whistled for 36 fouls.

Wilmington travels to St. Louis for Washington University's Lopata Classic. The Quakers will grapple with No. 21 Washington.
