Men's basketball picked fourth

AUSTINTOWN, OH – The Wilmington College men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason poll, the league announced today (November 6, 2012).

"This is a great league year in and year out," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "Being picked fourth is nice, but our players aren't focused on preseason polls, they are focused on trying to win a championship."

After losing three straight games to end the season, the Quakers went on a run through the OAC tournament that fell short in the league championship game. With a record of 15-13, it was the fourth time in Hunt's five seasons, Wilmington finished above .500.

Wilmington returns four of its five starters, and 10 of its 11 top scorers. First-team All-OAC selection Malcolm Heard (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) is the top returning scorer and rebounder with 14.7 points and 5.9 rebounds. Senior Brandon Candella (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) was third on the team last season with 10.8 points and second with 5.1 rebounds.

Defending champion Capital received six of the 10 first-place votes for 74 points, followed by Baldwin-Wallace (67, three first-place votes), Marietta (67, one first-place votes), Wilmington (57), John Carroll (51), Mount Union (38), Ohio Northern (35), Heidelberg (34), Otterbein (17) and Muskingum (10).

The Quakers kick off the 2012-13 campaign at the Allegheny Invitational 6 p.m. November 16 against McDaniel.
