TIFFIN – For the second consecutive game, the Wilmington College men's basketball team rebounded from a slow start to post a victory, beating Heidelberg Saturday, 76-59, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Seiberling Gymnasium.

The Fightin' Quakers shot 51.7 percent from the field, committed just four turnovers, while forcing nine in outscoring the home team by 21 points in the second half. It was the second straight victory when trailing at the break for Wilmington. The Green & White is now 2-7 when losing or tied after the first 20 minutes.

"It was a tale of two halves," said head coach K.C. Hunt. "We did a much better job of taking care of the basketball. We limited their transition opportunities and made them play the slower game. Any time you win on the road in the OAC, it's a great win. It's especially nice when you lost to them the first time around."

It was a 16-3 run midway through the second half that turned the game around for WC. Junior Malcolm Heard II (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) scored half of the Wilmington points in the pivotal stretch. He finished with his fifth double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds. The Fightin' Quakers are unbeaten when Heard reaches the statistical landmark.

Three other Quakers reached double figures in the victory. Senior Brandon Candella (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) added 12 points with six rebounds, while senior Miles Bankston (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills) recorded 10 points and tied a career-high eight rebounds. For the fourth time in six games, sophomore Dwight Johnson (Dayton, OH/Jefferson) scored at least 10 points, chipping in with 10 for Wilmington.

"Definitely think anytime you can get a third, fourth or a fifth scoring option, it makes us that much more dangerous," said Hunt.

Putting the ball in the basket wasn't a problem for the Fightin' Quakers in the first half, as they connected on 50 percent of their shots. However, Wilmington only managed 20 attempts in the half as WC committed 10 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Thanks in part to the turnovers and the six offensive rebounds Heidelberg took 18 more shots in the opening stanza.

Wilmington (10-9 overall, 7-5 OAC), which has won six of its last seven games, hosts Capital 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for the Green Swarm Night. Fans are encouraged to wear green shirts to the game. The Fightin' Quakers fell to Capital, 70-68, in the first meeting on a late field goal.
