Baseball Hosts Earlham in Quaker Bowl Rivalry on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team hosts Earlham College for a second Quaker Bowl Rivalry game on Tuesday. First pitch from Tewksbury-Delaney Field is slated for 4 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Earlham. The Fightin' Quakers are 0-8 on the season after being swept by Alma College in a three-game series over the weekend. The Hustlin' Quakers are 7-3 overall after falling to Kalamazoo College in 2-of-3 games over the weekend.

The Coaches: The 2020 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his second season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Steve Sakosits, in his eighth season at Earlham, led the program to the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) title.

The Hitters: A trio of Quakers – Caleb Scott, Luke Kleindl and Gavin Perkins – have at least eight hits and hit over a .300 clip. Scott leads the team with 10 hits, a home run and six RBIs. Danny Dopp leads Earlham with 13 RBIs and five doubles while Marc Gendreau has 15 total hits for Earlham.

The Pitchers: Wilmington's pitch staff, through eight games, as a staff ERA of over eight. Luke Chappie and Lance Fleischman have both pitched over a dozen innings while Luke Kleindl and Cameron Harbert have under a 4.00 ERA. Earlham features a 3.10 staff ERA as well as averaging over eight strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Aidan Talalek, the winner in the first meeting between the two teams, has yet to allow an earned run in 8.2 innings pitched.

Series History: Wilmington has lost 19 consecutive games to Earlham dating back to the 2012 season. Earlham won the first meeting this season, 9-0 at Darrell Beane Stadium on March 3. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.

Quaker Bowl Rivalry: The athletics departments of Wilmington and Earlham have re-created the Quaker Bowl rivalry. Originally a traveling trophy for just football and men's basketball, the bowl will now be competed for across all sports the two schools compete in. Wilmington has won the last two years including a 6-4 win over the 2018-19 academic year.
