Kenyon upends @DubC_Baseball, 11-3

GAMBIER – The Wilmington College baseball team stepped away from Ohio Athletic Conference action Tuesday, and fell to Kenyon, 11-3, at McCloskey Field.

The Lords scored in each of the first three innings to open up a 7-1 lead. Errors in the first and second innings led to unearned runs for Kenyon.

Junior Cole Voltz (Mount Pleasant, OH/Madison Plains) scored junior Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) with an RBI single. The Fightin' Quakers had a chance to tack on more runs, but had a runner cut down at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch.

The sixth inning started with a double by senior Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen) and a walk to junior Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami). Both runners moved up on a ground out, and then Whitney scored on a Ramsey ground out.

A one-out walk by freshman Tyler McDaniel (Trenton, OH/Edgewood) and a single by junior Billy Foster (Xenia, OH/Xenia) gave Wilmington runners on first and third. A fielder's choice by freshman Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) scored McDaniel with WC's final run.

Junior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillboro) fell to 0-6 on the season, allowing nine runs (five earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts and six walks in 4 2/3 innings of action.

Junior Luke Matthews (Centerville, OH/Centerville) also had a single and freshman Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/Central) added a double in the loss.

Wilmington (3-26 overall) returns home 1 p.m. Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader with Cincinnati-Clermont at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.
