Cleaver accounts for four hits as @DubC_Baseball swept

WESTERVILLE, OH – The Wilmington College baseball team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games Tuesday at Fishbaugh Field, falling to Otterbein 11-0 in the opener, and losing in the nightcap, 17-3. Wilmington falls to 3-23 overall, 0-12 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Fightin' Quakers travel to Ohio Wesleyan 4 p.m. for a non-conference doubleheader.

GAME ONE: OTTERBEIN 11, WILMINGTON 0

The Cardinals did all their damage in the middle four innings, scoring three runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, respectively, and then two more in the sixth inning.

Junior Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) recorded two of Wilmington's six hits. Junior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville), freshman Kyle Short (Trenton, OH/Edgewood), senior Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen) and freshman Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) all had hits for Wilmington.

Whitney (0-2) took the loss, allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits in four innings of work.

GAME TWO: OTTERBEIN 17, WILMINGTON 3

Cleaver accounted for two of Wilmington's five hits, and Short had the lone two RBI as Wilmington fell, 17-3, in the nightcap.

Wilmington opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Schrock opened the game with a walk, and moved to third on a single by Cleaver. Schrock scored on a throwing error on Cleaver's steal of second. After a walk to Short, the rally halted with back-to-back foul outs.

Whitney, Short and junior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) all had hits.

The Cardinals scored seven unearned runs, thanks to two errors, to take a 7-1 lead. Otterbein continued to score runs over the next six innings, including three runs in each the fourth and fifth innings.

Cleaver (1-3) took the loss, allowed seven unearned runs in one inning.
