Eighth inning run beats baseball

FT. MYERS, FL – The Wilmington College baseball team allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and fell to MacMurray Tuesday, 9-8, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

The winning run reached on a one-out error and came all the way around to score on a two-out throwing error.

Wilmington fell behind early as MacMurray dented the plate twice in the opening inning. The Fightin' Quakers fought back with six runs on just three hits in the third inning. Wilmington added a pair of runs in the seventh inning.

MacMurray just chipped away at the WC lead with two runs in each the third, fourth and sixth innings.

Junior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Wayneville) went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Zach Docter was 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI. Junior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) also tallied two hits for the Fightin' Quakers.

Billy Foster (Xenia, OH/Xenia) was saddled with the loss (1-1) allowing an unearned run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Wilmington plays Mitchell 9 a.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader.
