Ten-run first too much to overcome

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – The Wilmington College baseball team allowed 10 runs in the first inning and fell to Thomas More Tuesday, 13-3, in non-conference action.

Freshman pitcher Samuel Cranor (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle), in his first career start, allowed 10 runs (six earned) in 2/3 of an inning. He yielded eight hits with one strikeout and one walk. Sophomore Cole Voltz (Mt. Sterling, OH/Madison Plains) pitched well in relief, going four innings and surrendering just one earned run on five hits and three strikeouts.

Junior Tommy Chamberlain (Trenton, OH/Edgewood) didn't allow a run in 2 1/3 innings. He allowed four hits with two strikeouts, and it marks the third time in four appearances he didn't give up a run.

Wilmington got on the board in the top of the sixth inning as sophomore Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) was hit with two outs, and scored on a double by senior Brandon Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington).

Walks by junior Russ Neeley (Springboro, OH/Springboro) and sophomore Billy Foster (Xenia, OH/Xenia) to start the ninth inning enabled the Fightin' Quakers to dent plate twice more. The pair advanced a base via a wild pitch, and Neeley scored on a RBI groundout by junior Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen). Foster crossed the plate following a two-out throwing error.

Arehart was the lone Wilmington player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wilmington (0-11) starts Ohio Athletic Conference 1 p.m. Saturday with a road doubleheader at Ohio Northern.
