Monnier, Arehart named Lamb winners

AUSTINTOWN – Wilmington seniors Brandon Arehart and Danielle Monnier were joined by 18 other Ohio Athletic Conference student-athletes honored as Clyde Lamb Award winners by the OAC at the 30th Annual OAC Awards Banquet.

The Clyde A. Lamb Awards are named in honor of the man who organized the Department of Health and Physical Education at Ohio Northern in 1929. He served as coach, department chairman and athletics director at ONU from 1929-64.

Criteria for the award include at least two year's participation in an OAC-sponsored sport, senior status, and a minimum grade point average of 3.00

Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington), a four-year starter in football and baseball, earned honorable mention All-OAC in both sports to round out his career. He graduated with a 3.98 GPA in Biology-Health Science. He was a 2013 Capital One Academic All-District honoree, along with being a WC Faculty Scholarship and a three-time GM Frigidaire Scholarship honoree.

He finished in the top five in every career-passing category, and rounded out his career with his best season. He threw for 2,557 yards with 16 touchdowns this past season. In baseball, he concluded his career by hitting .278 (35-for-126) with six doubles, two triples and 10 RBI.

Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) has been one of the main catalysts for Wilmington’s turnaround in softball. The 2014 OAC Pitcher of the Year, is a two-time All-OAC selection and a two-time WC Female Student-Athlete of the Year. She is a Green Key Society member and two-time Academic All-OAC.

She led the OAC in earned run average (2.24) and strikeouts 142, and was tied for second in the league with 13 victories. The win total established a new single-season record for Wilmington, and Monnier leaves as the school's all-time leader in that category as well. She also holds the top three single-season strikeout performances en route to establishing a new career record as well.
