Garn Garners All-OAC Honors for Women's Swimming at OAC Championships

FINAL RESULTS

AKRON, Ohio - Freshman Makenna Garn earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honors for the Wilmington College women's swimming team on the final day of the 2023 OAC Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday.

Garn swum a time of 2:15.37 in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish third in the championship final. Tia Reed of Baldwin Wallace University won it with a time of 2:27.89. Two other Quakers - Alayna Fierman and Abbi Whitesell - competed in the consolation final of the 200-yard breaststroke with Fierman's time of 2:43.14 placing her third and Whitesell's mark of 2:51.57 good for fifth.

Sierra Szuhay was the other WC individual to swim in a championships final as the senior placed eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.37). Her teammate, Sydney Overmyer, placed seventh in the consolation final (2:25.37).

Other individual finishes for the Quakers included: Audrey Bibb's fifth-place swum of 57.98 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and the duo of Rylee Kay Puthoff (21:22.20) and Shannon O'Boyle (22:18.06) in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Wilmington closed out its season with a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the Quaker squad of Garn, Szuhay, Overmyer and Bibb swum a time of 3:55.94.

"Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding OAC Championship Meet," Head Coach Trip Breen said. "Their hard work and commitment to each helped produce 108 lifetime-best performances and four team records. They have a lot to be proud of!"

As a team, Wilmington finished fifth with 246 points. Defending champions John Carroll University won the title again with 1,038 points and were followed by the University of Mount Union (761 points), Ohio Northern University (552 points) and Baldwin Wallace (444 points).
