Garn Places Fifth in 100-Yard Breaststroke on Day Three of OAC Championships

RESULTS AFTER DAY THREE

AKRON, Ohio - Freshman Makenna Garn competed in the championship final of the 100-yard breaststroke for the Wilmington College women's swimming team on day three of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships, held at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium on Friday.

Garn earned a fifth-place finish in the event by touching the wall in 1:10.12. Teammate Alayna Fierman, who competed in the consolation final, placed fourth with a mark of 1:15.16.

Sierra Szuhay was the other Quaker to swim in a championship final as the senior claimed eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke by swimming a time of 1:03.64. Wilmington had both Sydney Overmyer and Anna Endsley in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke. Overmyer finished seventh (1:09.27) and Endsley placed eighth (1:09.35).

Audrey Bibb and Morgan Fleischer rounded out the individual performances on the night as both competed in the consolation final of the  200-yard freestyle. Bibb's time of 2:04.93 was good for runner-up honors and Fleischer touched the wall in 2:20.57 for an eighth-place finish. 

In the 200-yard medley relay, the WC squad of Szuhay, Fierman, Garn and Endsley finished fifth (1:59.16). As a team, the Quakers are in fifth place with 163 points. Defending OAC Championship John Carroll University is leading the conference with 678 points.

The final day of the championships (Saturday) begins with prelims at 10 a.m.
