Leon Breaks School Record Twice in 200-IM on Day One of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's swimming team opened the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships by swimming in five events on Thursday.

Macki Leon highlighted the Fightin' Quakers' performances individually with a 2:16.50 performance in the 200-yard IM, breaking her own school record from last year in the event. In the finals of the event, Leon broke her own school record once again, placing sixth with a time of 2:15.06. Hannah Davis, who posted a time of 26.13 seconds in the prelims, finished eighth in the consolation final with a mark of 25.97 seconds.

Margaret Hover (5:31.28) and Rachel O'Donnell (5:34.58) qualified for the consolation final of the 500-meter freestyle via top 16 finishes in the prelims this morning. Both improved slightly on their morning times and finished sixth and seventh in the consolation final respectively.

Wilmington's 200-yard medley relay squad of Hover, Davis, Herring and Leon finished fifth with a time of 1:43.12. The Quakers' 400-medley relay squad of Leon, Rebecca Curran, Maryn Herring and Hover also took fifth with a time of 4:14.18.

As a team, Wilmington sits in fifth place after day one with 75 team points. Defending OAC champion John Carroll University leads the way with 228 points.

Action from day two of the championships begins with the prelims of the 200-yard medley relay at 10 a.m. Friday.
