TIFFIN, Ohio – After a scoreless 90 minutes, Heidi Edens broke the deadlock with a game-winning goal in the 98th minute to lift the Wilmington College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Heidelberg University in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener on Saturday.

The win vaults Wilmington to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in OAC play and continues the Fightin' Quakers' unbeaten streak to seven games. The loss drops the Student Princes to 4-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in OAC competition.

Heidelberg put the pressure on Wilmington early as the Student Princes had 12 shots to the Quakers' three. Wilmington's Lauren Galloway, who leads the league in save percentage (.966) made six saves in the first half. The second half was much more balanced as the Quakers fired six shots on goal compared to three for the Berg. This half, it was Meredith Bruce that made six saves to force overtime.

In overtime, Edens broke free and fired a long-distance strike over the head of Bruce for the game's only goal.

"Today was a hard-fought victory on the road," Head Coach Steve Spirk said. "We played great defensively and Heidi Edens scored a special goal for her first career goal in overtime."

Heidelberg had a 22-12 advantage in total shots, though the shots on goal were an even 9-9. The Berg also had six corner kicks to Wilmington's four.

Galloway, who earned her fifth collegiate shutout, didn't allow a goal for the sixth consecutive game. Bruce was also brilliant for Heidelberg, making seven saves.

Individually, Edens and Maddie Scott both took three shots while Taylor Huffman and Grace Storck both took two shots on goal. Erica Campbell and Victoria Perez combined for 11 shots for Heidelberg.

Wilmington continues OAC play at Muskingum on Wednesday evening.
