The Wilmington College men's basketball team returns home after having its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday. The Fightin' Quakers hosts Muskingum 7 p.m. Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
NCAA SERIES: Wilmington holds a slim 20-19 margin over Muskingum, but has dominated the recent series - winning 14 of the last 15 games.
THE LAST MEETING: Down 10 points with 86 seconds remaining and a berth in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference tournament hanging in the balance, the Wilmington College men's basketball team mounted an epic comeback to send the seniors out with a win in their last game at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.
Will Patrick pulled down a defensive rebound with 10 seconds remaining, took the ball coast to coast and found a streaking Nathan Scott for the eventual game-winning basket.
Muskingum had one final breath as leading scorer Jarrell Marsh drove to the front of the rim, but left the layup short, and the Fightin' Quakers pulled off the 80-79 victory on February 17.
MEET THE MUSKIES: Muskingum evened its league record at 3-3 with a 101-94 victory against Heidelberg Saturday, and the nine wins on the season are the most since the 2008-09 campaign.
In the victory over the Student Princes, sophomore Jarrell Marsh recorded his second double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Joshua Keyes added his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Rickey Wilson tied a career-high with 22 points, and freshman Marcus Dempsey added 20 points.
On the season, all five Muskingum starters are scoring at least nine points with three starters in double figures.
Marsh leads the team with 19.5 points per game, and is leading the team in field goals (88) field goal attempts (200), three-pointer attempts (75), assists (40) and free throws (56) and free throw attempts (69). In fact, his 56 made free throws are more than all but one of his teammates' attempts.
Dempsey is second on the team with 15.2 points and Wilson is third with 10.4 points.
Keyes is second in the OAC with 11.0 rebounds, and is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.8 points.
UNCLE DREW: Sophomore Andrew Russell is hoping to come out his recent shooting slump. After averaging 15.6 points per game in the first five games of the season, Russell is only averaging seven in the six games since. He has reached double figures in only one of those games.
DOUBLE FIGURES: Wilmington enters the game with four players averaging more than 10 points. Junior Christian Jones and sophomore Andrew Russell are leading the team with 12.2 points.
Freshman Noah Chatman is third with 10.7 points, while junior reserve Nathan Scott is scoring 10.4 points.
EFFICIENT FROSH: Freshman Noah Chatman currently leads the Ohio Athletic Conference, sixth nationally in field goal percentage, making 67.4 percent of his attempts. Earlier this season, he set a Wilmington NCAA-era record with 14 made field goals.
WE ROLL DEEP: Wilmington's rotation features 11 players that are averaging at least 9.7 minutes per game. In addition, no player is playing more than 24 minutes. In contrast, three players averaged more than 25 last season.
JUMPMAN: The two-time dunk champion Kevin Lewis is using his jumping ability to lead the team with 5.9 rebounds. Lewis is currently 13th in the league in rebounding.
In addition, Lewis is fifth in the league - making 59.4 percent of his shots.
BALANCE: Five different players have led the team in scoring. Junior Christian Jones has led the team four times and junior Nathan Scott has been the team leader in three games.
GREAT SCOTT: Junior Nathan Scott is starting to show his scoring potential off the bench for the Fightin' Quakers. In the last seven games, he is averaging 12.4 points per game – including a career-high 20 last week against Capital.
