Stacy sixth in weight throw

BEXLEY – Sophomore Lauren Stacy earned Wilmington's lone individual points Friday as the women's track and field team is eighth after the first day of the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships.

Stacy finished sixth in the weight throw (14.63 meters) to pick up three points.

The distance medley relay team of Veronica Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond), Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union), Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Mifflin) and Christina Paskow (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) placed fifth (13:13.97) in the event.

"The first day was an up and down ride for us," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "We had some good surprises and some bad surprises."

After missing the last couple of weeks with an injury, senior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) announced her presence in the prelims. She qualified fourth in the 200 meters (26.70) and in fifth in the 60 meters (9.28). Wilmington used one of its two female wildcard enters on Murphy in the 60 meter dash, and the senior made it count by qualifying eighth (8.13).

"Sarah Murphy was amazing coming off an injury making the final in three races," said Combs. "She was a warrior today."
