Bolen earns All-OAC honors

BEREA – Sophomore Marissa Bolen finished second to earn all-league honors Friday in the shot put during the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championships.  The Wilmington College women's track and field team is eighth heading into the second day.

Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) went 12.37 meters on her first toss, which was good enough to earn second place. While she improved on her distance in the fifth and sixth attempts, it wasn't enough to vault into the top spot. She finished with a 12.56 meters.

"Marissa was really strong today," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "She had a really good series in cold and rainy conditions."

She was the only women's athlete to earn all-OAC honors on Friday.

Junior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) set a new personal record in the 10,000, placing fifth with the time of 39:33.31. Junior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) qualified seventh for the 400-meter hurdle finals in the time of 1:09.97.

The field events begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and the running events start at 2 p.m.
