Ball bounces against Quakers

GRANVILLE, OH – Sometimes the ball can bounce your way, other times it bounces against you. For the Wilmington women's soccer team Saturday, the bounce went against them as they fell to Denison, 1-0.

In the game's first 15 minutes, both teams were able to secure excellent scoring chances that resulted in shots hitting off the cross bar. Wilmington's bounced off, while the Big Red shot found its way to the back of the net for the game's only goal.

"The game was even throughout," said head coach Steve Spirk. "We defended well and had chances to score. It's early in the season, and I told the girls, we still have a lot of things to work on. Coming out of this tournament 1-1 is not a bad result."

Sophomore Lauren Lewis (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) and junior Angela Phillips (Union, OH/Northmont) each unleashed two shots as Wilmington finished with 10 shots – two of which were on goal.

Freshman Grace Hignite (Englewood, OH/Northmont) recorded three saves in taking the loss.

Wilmington (1-1) returns to action 7 p.m. Wednesday as they travels to Wittenberg for non-conference action.
