LQB falls to Polar Bears

ADA – The Wilmington College women's basketball team fell to Ohio Northern, 73-42, Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the ONU Sports Center.

"I was disappointed in our performance level and our energy level tonight," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "Ohio Northern played well and that wasn't a good combination."

The Polar Bears shot 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the field in the second half, and outscored the Fightin' Quakers by 20 points. For the game, Ohio Northern made 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field. While ONU was blazing the nets, Wilmington launched from deep seemingly at will. The byproduct of the long jump shots resulted in WC going to the line just twice the entire game.

Wilmington made more three-pointers (10) than two-point field goals (5), and was 15-of-56 (26.8 percent) from the field. Eight of WC's nine second-half baskets were three-pointers. The Fightin' Quakers were 10-of-28 (35.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

"We went inside early unsuccessfully," said Scheve, "and we settled for three-pointers that we could have gotten anytime, and took them early in the shot clock."

Scheve added that most of the three-pointers in the second half came as a result of playing inside-out offensively.

Senior guard Spencer Robles (Clyde, OH/Clyde) finished with a team-high 12 points on four made three's and a team-high six rebounds.

Wilmington (11-9 overall, 6-7 OAC) comes home 3 p.m. Saturday to host Marietta. The Fightin' Quakers recorded the 71-60 over the Pioneers on December 6.
