Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve made a minor adjustment to his starting lineup, and it paid major dividends as the fourth seeded Lady Quakers advanced to the Third Round of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament with the 71-47 victory over eight seed Muskingum.

Senior Shelby Kies (Maineville, OH/Kings) moved to the shooting guard position and started at the position for the first time this season. She scored all 13 of her points in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, a triple at the first half buzzer that stemmed a Muskie rally.

"She been a point guard for four years, moved to shooting guard tonight and she shot the ball really well," said Scheve. "But she also makes us better defensively when she is in there. I thought she was a key player for us tonight."

The Lady Quakers scored the first six points and the lead never dropped below five points. The bulge grew to as much 20 points before Muskingum went on its only spurt of the contest. The Muskies scored 10 straight points before Kies' buzzer beater.

With the momentum seized from Kies, Wilmington scored the first 10 points of the second half pushing its lead to 23. The lead would stay over 20 points for all but two minutes of the second half.

One of the top rebounding teams in the OAC, the Lady Quakers put their board prowess on full display Tuesday. Wilmington grabbed 50 rebounds, 24 of which were offensive, while holding a plus-27 advantage on the glass.

"We have to rebound, and our kids know that," said Scheve. "We are last in the league in shooting percentage. If we don't go to the offensive boards, we are going to have problems. When hold teams to one shot and you get second and third shots yourself, it usually ends up good for you."

Senior Bria Eslick (Cleveland Heights, OH/Lutheran East) was the primary culprit, pulling down nine of her 11 rebounds on the offensive end. She added nine points, coming one point short of the double-double.

"It's really nice to go to the bench and bring somebody in that can change the game the way Bria does," said Scheve. "She is explosive getting to the basket. She is one of those players that expects the shot to be missed and goes after it."

Senior Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) added 13 points, while Kies and sophomore Haley Howard (Uhrichsville, OH/New Philadelphia) dished out four assists each. The Lady Quakers finished with 17 assists on their 24 baskets in the victory.

Wilmington (15-11) travels to top-seeded and #3 Ohio Northern 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
