Softball Heads to Fort Myers for Eight-Game Spring Trip Beginning Monday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team will begin its annual spring trip to Florida with a pair of games on Monday and conclude with a twinbill on Thursday. All games will be played at the Lee County Sports Complex.

The Schedule: Wilmington, which was forced to cancel its first two games of the trip due to a flight cancellation, will open up with Kenyon College and SUNY-Brockport at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively on Monday. The last three days will feature games at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. each day with SUNY-Delhi and Nazareth College on Tuesday, UW-Superior and Maine-Presque Isle on Wednesday and Central College (Iowa) and SUNY-Canton on Thursday.

The Coach: Beth Floyd is in her 15th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013.

The Hitters: Lindsey Carter had a red-hot start to her sophomore season as she tallied five hits in six at bats in the season-opening twinbill with Franklin College on Tuesday. Reigning Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Freshman of the Year Arianna Layne hit a home run on the first pitch she saw while McKenna Archey had two doubles.

The Pitchers: Alexis Stringfellow tallied a 1.40 ERA in five innings pitched in the second game, which was shortened due to darkness, against Franklin. Izzy Rothrock, the starter in game one, had five strikeouts in four innings while Lindsey Carter pitched the final three innings of game one, allowing one earned run.
