WILMINGTON – The Wilmington College football team allowed close to 700 yards of total offense Saturday, falling to Heidelberg in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Williams Stadium, 56-2.

For the second straight game, the Quakers defense was able to put points on the board as Donnie Ary(Jamestown/Greeneview) tackled the Bryan Lacey in the end zone for a safety. Ary was a part of a defensive line rotation of Spencer Running (Wilmington/Clinton-Massie), Aaron Day (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills), andChris Ferguson (Springfield/North) that applied consistent heat on the Heidelberg quarterback.

"We were able to get it done without much stunting as well," said head coach Ken Minor. "The three interior guys were able to get some pressure on the quarterback."

Junior Devon Burton (Waynesville/Waynesville) was another bright spot for the Fightin' Quakers. The safety finished with a career-high 16 tackles and the other safety, junior Trevor Hooker (New Port Richey, FL/Ridge) added 11 tackles.

Wilmington showed some progress offensively, as they unveiled the option aspect of the run-n-shoot offense to varied success. They were able to gain 110 yards on the ground, led by quarterback Brandon Arehart (Wilmington/Wilmington) – who amassed 44 yards on seven carries. Arehart finished the fame 12-of-23 passing for 66 yards.

"We are still trying to learn about ourselves in this new offense," said Minor. "We put the option package in because it can be a little tough to defend."

Senior running back March Jones (Pensacola, FL/Ben Davis (AL)), in his first start, added 33 yards on the ground.
Junior Chris Cason (Germantown/Valley View) moved to quarterback this week, and was fairly effective in his limited action. Cason played quarterback at Valley View for offensive coordinator Jay Niswonger. He was 4-of-7 for 52 yards and threw two interceptions.

Wilmington (0-3 overall, 0-2 OAC) will travel to New Concord next week to face Muskingum 7 p.m. Saturday.
