Women's Track & Field Takes Second at Rick Meindl Last Call Meet

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's track & field team took second at the Rick Meindl Last Call Meet hosted by Capital University on Friday evening.

Wilmington finished with 99 points, beating Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) members Capital University, Muskingum University, Marietta College and Otterbein University. Ohio Dominican University won the meet with 131 team points.

Emma Burke led the Fightin' Quakers efforts in sprints with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (9.61 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.92 seconds). Sidney Field placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.13 seconds while Cheyenne Rhodes took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 29.15 seconds.

Burke and Cheyenne Rhodes also shined middle distance events. Burke finishes second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.97 while Rhodes also earned a runner-up finish (1:25.66) in her middle-distance event, the 500-meter dash. Miranda Gibson turned in a sixth-place time of 1:08.00 in the 400-meter dash while Kayci Johnson placed seventh (2:48.81) in the 800-meter run.

In distance events, Brooke Gibbons (3:25.58) and Kelly Rice (3:38.28) went one-two in the 1,000-meter run. Katie Hughes claimed a title in the 3,000-meter run with a mark of 11:45.90 while Savannah Rhodes (12:14.86) and Kendra Stahl (13:07.91) finished fourth and sixth respectively.

The Wilmington 4-x-400-meter relay squad of Gibbons, Hughes, Johnson and Abby Spirk took second with a time of 4:47.79.

In field events, Keva Cox finished third in the high jump with a mark of 4' 7 ¾" while Kayli Sullivan earned seventh-place finishes in both the shot put (35' 3") and the weight throw (43' 9 ½").

"We had a great team meet tonight and our team performed really well," Head Women's Track & Field Coach Ron Combs said. "Tonight was a great way to end our regular season as several people qualified for the OAC Indoor Championships next weekend."

Wilmington heads to the OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University next weekend.
