The Wilmington College softball team stepped away from conference action and dropped a pair of games to HCAC leader Transylvania Monday, 6-3 and 18-4. The games were added to the schedule late Sunday.

TRANSYLVANIA 6, WILMINGTON 3

Transylvania did all of its damage in two innings as the Pioneers smacked six extra-base hits, including three homers, in recording the 6-3 victory.

The first three batters reached to start the second inning, the latter being an RBI single by Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field), as Wilmington took an early lead. However, that would be the extent of its scoring  in the frame.

Transy scored three runs in each the fourth and fifth innings.

Kennedy Metz (Russia, OH/Russia) scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, and Megan Joyner (Worton, MD/Kent County) registered her first career RBI with a groundout in the fifth. Joyner scored Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County), who doubled to open the inning.

Trautman had a season-high three hits with an RBI for just her third multi-hit game of the season, while Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Becca Carpenter, 4-13, (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) surrendered six runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Joyner pitched the final 2 1/3 innings without allowing a run and striking out three.

TRANSYLVANIA 18, WILMINGTON 4

Transylvania scored in four of six innings, including a nine-run sixth, to complete the sweep with the 18-4 win.

For the second straight game, Wilmington took the early lead. Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) opened the bottom of the first with a bunt single, swiped second, and scored on a double by Edwards.

The Pioneers reclaimed the lead with three runs in the second, and padded its advantage with two in the third and four in the fourth.

An RBI single by Edwards, scored Trautman from second in the second inning, and Wilmington added two more in the sixth as Metz had a two-run single.

Edwards was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while five other players recorded hits.

Beth Persicano, 2-7, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) yielded nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits in three innings of work.

Wilmington will wrap up the season 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting Mount Union in an OAC doubleheader.
