No. 21 Otterbein takes two from @DubC_Softball

WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College softball team dropped both ends of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday to nationally-ranked Otterbein at Rike Field.

OTTERBEIN 3, WILMINGTON 0

The host Cardinals did all of its damage with two outs, including a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to record the 3-0 win in the opener.

Otterbein added an insurance run with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.

Three different hitters – sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington), sophomore Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) and sophomore Chandler Fields (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) – had hits in the loss.

Carpenter, 4-11, allowed three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.

OTTERBEIN 8, WILMINGTON 2

Otterbein scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, thanks in part to two Wilmington errors, and broke open a one-run game as the Fightin' Quakers fell 8-1 in the nightcap.

Carpenter had both the Wilmington's RBI, and had the first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of her career.

Hooper finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, and has now had multiple hits in 14 games this season. She extended her hitting streak to seven games, and has recorded a hit in nine of the last 10 games.

Senior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) was 3-for-4 and sophomore Courtney Mackey (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. It was the second three-hit game of the season for Warren.

Sophomore Beth Persicano, 2-5, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) took the loss, surrendering five runs (three earned) on seven hits in four innings in the circle.

Wilmington (10-20 overall, 2-12 OAC) travels to Marietta 1 p.m. Saturday for an OAC twinbill.
