Men's Cross Country Opens Season at Earlham Friday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's cross country team opens its 2018 season at the Quaker Dual Meet hosted by Earlham College on Aug. 31. The five-kilometer race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Coach: Ron Combs is in his 23rd season as head cross country coach at Wilmington College. A 1993 graduate of Wilmington, Combs was a member of the only cross country team to win a conference title in school history. Also the head track & field coach at the College, Combs led the Fightin' Quakers to two top-10 finishes nationally with a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships and a seventh place mark at the 2004 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Runners: Hunter Stith was the top Wilmington finisher at the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships last season, finishing in 53rd place with a time of 27:30.2. Gage Clemens was the next Quaker to finish, doing so in 27:43.3 for 64th place. Earlham is coming off a third place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships, the program's highest finish ever in the HCAC.
