QUOTES

  • "I was pleased with the overall performance today," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "We had a really long layoff from competition and I always feel like the first meet back is a bit of a challenge. We still have to make that final push with our training and we have an opportunity to race in two more dual meets.  They will both be important steps in our preparation for conference in February."
  • "Our men's distance swimmers had a good day today, Brendan Tirado winning the 800 and 400 free," said Breen. "This is the first time that Brendan swam the 800 and I am happy with his effort. Matthew Kitze and Ben Ball also had good swims, both having nice time drops. We have been doing a little more focused pace work in practice and they are doing a great job applying what we are doing in their races."
  • "I think our male sprinters put together some nice swims today," said Breen. "This is a tough time of year for everyone, being fatigued and just back to racing, but usually it is the toughest on them. Andrew Stewart had a great individual win in the 50, David Hawk won the 100 and Jason Prible won the 200.  At the end of the meet David Hawk lead off the men's 200 meter freestyle relay with a 24.15. I believe that is his fastest in-season 50 and a great effort for this time of the season."
