Top-Ranked Mount Union Defeats Football 63-7

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The University of Mount Union held the Wilmington College football team to 170 yards of offense in a 63-7 victory over the Fightin' Quakers in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders, ranked No. 1 in the most recent D3Football.com Top 25 Poll, scored in six of their seven drives in the first half. The Wilmington defense came up with an interception for the one stop of the half as Tywon Berry picked off a D'Angelo Fulford pass early in the second quarter. Offensively, the Quakers got into Mount Union territory twice in the first half, but a missed field goal and a turnover on downs ended both drives.

The Quaker defense came up with the team's touchdown as Royon Washington forced a Mount Union fumble late in the third quarter. Que Taylor picked up the loose ball and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown.

Mount Union gained 576 yards from scrimmage including 204 through the air and 372 on the ground. Wilmington had 127 yards passing and 43 rushing for a total of 170 yards. THe Purple Raiders also held an advantage in third down conversions, going 4-of-4 on the day compared to 5-of-17 for the Quakers.

Individually, Fulford completed 12-of-14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns to go along with the interception. Kyle Barrett finished 14-of-22 for 93 yards for Wilmington. Three Purple Raiders - Ernie Burkes, Josh Petruccelli and Matt Garcia - all rushed for at least 80 yards. Aaron Johnston led Wilmington in the rushing department with nine carries for 20 yards.

Tre'Quez Parks, Parris Weathersby and Royon Washington all had six tackles for Wilmington while Mitch O'Hara had 10 tackles to lead Mount Union defensively.

Wilmington (1-4, 0-4 OAC) heads to Marietta College next weekend.
