WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team opens the week with a non-conference contest as Asbury University on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Asbury. The Quakers enter the contest 8-7 and winners of eight of their last nine contests having most recently swept a doubleheader with Hiram College on Sunday. The Eagles are 9-10, but winners of three straight contests.

The Coaches: Tony Vittorio, who formerly led the University of Dayton's baseball program for 18 seasons, is in his fifth season as Wilmington's head coach in 2023. He helped lead the Quakers to a 21-19 overall record last season. Manny Cervantes is in his ninth season as Asbury's head coach having become the school's first full-time head coach in 2014.

The Hitters: A quartet of Quakers - Tyler ShaneyfeltDominic DepaEvan Eilerman and Evan Kelsey - hit over a .300 clip with Kelsey leading the way at a .355 clip. Both Kelsey and Shaneyfelt have combined for 22 stolen bases while Jared Lammert joins Kelsey in driving in double-digit runs. Noah Brown, Quinn Nobles and Ethan Cartwright all average over a .375 batting average for Asbury with Cartwright's 19 RBIs leading th way. 

The Pitchers: Aaron Boster leads the Wilmington pitching staff with a 2.59 ERA in 31.1 innings pitched to go along with a 10.91 strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio. Trent Mendenhall, Kaleb Stines and Mac Davis are the other Quakers to have ERAs under 40.0 and have pitched double-digit innings. Jessie Reliford and Luke Chappie have combined for five saves for WC. Brody Bearden and Holten Handel have both pitched 20 innings for Asbury. Jackson Cole leads the squad in strikeouts with 17.
