Due to weather, the series was moved to Dayton Christian High School, and because of field conditions, the scheduled doubleheader turned into a single nine-inning game.

 

The Bluejays struck for two runs in the top of the first thanks to two hits and a Fightin' Quaker throwing error. Wilmington starter Luke Chappie, who pitched a quality start in his first college game last weekend, settled in and wouldn't allow a run to cross for the next four innings.

 

Wilmington's offense wasted no time in scoring as Nick Silvis singled later scored on an RBI-groundout from Moses Garza in the bottom of the first. The bottom of the second looked to be a huge inning for the Quakers as the hosts battled around in the frame. A Bluejay throwing error plated two runs while an RBI-single from Gavin Perkins scoring Joe Legin scored a third run. Wilmington would have to settle for a 4-2 lead after two, however, as a strikeout left the bases loaded.

 

Chappie got himself into trouble in the sixth as a lead-off walk tied the game thanks to failed pick-off and error by Chappie followed by a double. Matt Oney entered the game in relief, but another failed pick-off, this one being an error on the first baseman, tied the game 4-4. Wilmington regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning utilizing a lead-off walk as well. Aaron Burns, who earned the free pass to first, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Austin Turner and got to third on a single from Joe Legin. He then stole second base, and Elmhurst elected to throw down, allowing Burns to score from third.

 

The lead would not hold, however, as Oney surrendered a single, triple and home run from Jordan Scrimpsher gave Elmhurst a three-run inning for the final score of 7-5.

 

The Bluejays outhit the Quakers 9-8 with the majority of the damage coming from the top of the lineup. All had multi-hit games including Scrimpsher's two-run blast to center field. Caleb Scott countered with a 3-for-5 performance for Wilmington.

 

The hosts featured the better starter as Chappie scattered five hits in 5.2 innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs. The visitors, whose starter allowed four runs in two innings, featured the better relief as Fred Birr and Jasyn Miller combined for a dozen strikeouts in seven innings and allowed just two hits. Cameron Harbert was a bright spot for Wilmington's bullpen, pitching the final 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
