Academic All-Conference selections have at least a cumulative 3.5 grade-point average (GPA) at the end of the semester preceding the end of the spring season. The student-athlete must also be a member of a varsity team as well as be enrolled in a full-time capacity.
The freshman from New Washington, Ohio, ran a time of 14:27.82 in the event to give the Fightin’ Quakers 10 points. Wilmington finished in fifth with 29.5 points. The University of Mount Union won the meet with 217 points.
Wilmington tallied 42 points to finish behind NCAA Division III schools Centre College and Berea College as well as ahead of Transylvania University and Spalding University.
Wilmington will send its entire squad to the Centre Twilight Meet on Friday while Emma Burke will also compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the All-Ohio Meet on Saturday.
The Fightin’ Quakers finished with 34 points as a team, making Wilmington the second-highest finishing NCAA Division III team at the event. Wittenberg University placed sixth with a total of 41 points.
Emma Burke highlighted the Fightin’ Quakers performances by earning team points in two events. The junior finished third in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles (15.70 seconds) that earned her a fourth-place finish in the event. Additionally, Burke placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.48.
Otterbein University won the championship with 164.5 points, finishing 15 points ahead of the University of Mount Union. John Carroll University tallied 143 points while Baldwin Wallace University was the other team to cross the 100-point plateau with 113 points.
Emma Burke qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles for the third consecutive year by placing eighth in the prelims with a time of 9.45 seconds.
On Friday, field events will begin at noon while track events are slated to start at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 10 a.m. while track events start competition at 2 p.m.
Wilmington finished with 99 points, beating Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) members Capital University, Muskingum University, Marietta College and Otterbein University. Ohio Dominican University won the meet with 131 team points.
