Spring Senior Salute - Softball's Mariyah Burkhardt

Spring Senior Salute - Softball's Mariyah Burkhardt

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Throughout the coming months, the Wilmington College athletics department will be highlighting senior student-athletes who had their senior seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Today's senior salute is Mariyah Burkhardt. A four-year member of the program, Burkhardt appeared in 85 games and tallied 199 at bats wearing the Green & White. She concludes her career hitting a .302 clip to go along with 24 RBIs and six doubles. Mainly an outfielder, Burkhardt boasts a .986 fielding percentage with 159 putouts.

What is your major? - Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration

What is your favorite class at Wilmington College? - Business to Business Marketing

What is your favorite memory with the softball program? - Honestly, anytime I had with the pack was my favorite. We have so many memories on and off the field. We always just had way too much fun.

What are your plans after graduation? - After graduation, I plan on trying to finish my degree in Business Administration and pursue a job in athletics.

Do you see yourself returning to Wilmington to compete in 2021? - I only have two more classes to take to have a major in Business Administration, so there might be a possibility. At the same time, a part of me is ready to start the next chapter of my life.

What is your message to underclassmen on the impact of COVID-19? - When I first came to college, everyone always told me how fast it went, and they are not kidding. Classes flew by. Softball flew by. Working for Carl and Stacey flew by. Don't take any moment you have in college for granted. Enjoy every moment that you have with your team and friends while you can. Being in Florida with my team this year was so much fun, and I think that's why it hurt even more knowing when we got back to Ohio this was the end of that fun. The pack is a special team to be apart of. I will always love them. WC will always have a special place in my heart, and so will all the people that I have met on this journey.
