Wilmington competes in double duals

WILMINGTON, OH – The Wilmington College swim teams hosted a double dual meet with OAC opponent Transylvania and non-conference foe Wittenberg with mixed results.

The men's team defeated Transylvania, 88-24, but fell to Wittenberg, 70-51. The women's team suffered two defeats, falling to Transylvania, 70-52, and to Wittenberg, 79-42.

"We are in the middle of a long string of meets and we are getting a little fatigued," said head coach Trip Breen. "We have to find a way to bring up our excitement level. We have had a long string of dual meets, but I am happy with the way things are. We just have to clean up a few things."

Breen added that next week's invitational format could be the change that the Quakers need. Wilmington will compete in the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Sophomore Mason Harris (Westerville, OH/Westerville Central) turned in a great meet, posting a victory in the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 9:31.31. He placed second in the 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:28.29.

Junior Mikey Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) set his second school record of the season, this time establishing a new 200 yard backstroke record with a time of 2:00.23.

The quartet of David Hawk (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead), Alex Fout (Westerville, OH/Westerville), Dave Heidrich (Xenia, OH/Beavercreek) and Harris won the men's 400 meter relay with the time of 4:01.60.

Sophomore Victoria Burcham (Urbana, OH/Urbana) turned in a good meet on the women's side, winning the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:10.87.

Wilmington's 400 meter relay team of Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana), Emily Marcum (Circleville, OH/Circleville), Emily Ashbacher (Defiance, OH/Ayersville) and Caroline Kruczynski (Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) won the race in the time of 4:33.60.
