Baseball Splits Final Road Doubleheader of the Season at John Carroll

(UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team split their doubleheader on the road Saturday afternoon with the John Carroll University Blue Streaks. They dominated game one and won 14-6, before falling in game two 13-3. A trio of Quakers had two or more runs batted in (RBI) during game one, before the offense struggled in game two.

Wilmington is now 3-13 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and will play at home Monday afternoon against Mount St. Joseph University.

Game One – Wilmington defeats John Carroll, 14-6

Jared Lammert got the Quakers on the board right away in game one, hitting a homerun over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead. The Blue Streaks took a 2-1 lead in the second inning with a pair of runs.

Wilmington took the lead back in the top of the fourth on a two-out Carter Scheben two-run homerun to center field for the 3-2 advantage. John Carroll grabbed a run in the following two innings to hold a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning.

The Quakers batted around in the seventh and scored 11 runs to take a commanding 14-4 lead. It took 11 batters and eight runs for the Blue Streaks to finally get an out in the inning. Highlights of the big frame included a three-RBI double for Evan Kelsey, two-RBI single for Scheben, and two-RBI single for Max Gildea. Wilmington cruised to the finish line for the 14-6 win.

Game One Notables

Game Two – John Carroll defeats Wilmington, 13-3

The Quakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. A pair of singles put runners at first and second with one out before Carter Scheben continued his solid day with an RBI single through the left side of the infield. A few batters later, J.C. Calhoun hit an RBI single into left field. John Carroll answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

After two quick outs, Wilmington took advantage of some Blue Streaks mistakes in the second to pick up their third run of the game and a 3-2 lead. John Carroll tied it in the bottom of the second and scored four runs over the following two innings for the 7-3 advantage.

Wilmington hit a pair of doubles and a pair of singles throughout the remainder of the game but were unable to bring in anymore runs.
